A total of 1,409 SUNY Oneonta students earned Dean's List honors for the spring 2017 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

Local athletes competed on the 2016-17 SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team.

Fifty-two members of the Class of 2017 received Senior Service Awards in recognition of their outstanding commitment to volunteerism while at SUNY Oneonta. Students who completed at least 350 hours of service through the college's Center for Social Responsibility and Community (CSRC) were recognized during a reception on May 12.

The SUNY Oneonta History Department faculty recognized 12 students for academic achievement and outstanding essay writing during an awards ceremony this spring.

A total of 14 new members were inducted into the SUNY Oneonta Alpha-Kappa-Iota chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, during a ceremony on April 7.

A total of 192 students received the SUNY Oneonta 2016-2017 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a freshman, sophomore or junior with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher. Student award winners receive a certificate, a gift card to the campus bookstore, and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture and reception. Dr. Florian Reyda, professor of biology, will deliver this year's Susan Smith Lecture titled, "Parasites, Evolution and Us," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Otsego Grille of the Morris Conference Center on campus.

The New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) released its postseason honors Monday, and the Castleton University wrestling team, in just its first year as a varsity program, was well represented in both the athletic and academic awards.

More than 300 students met requirements for graduation from SUNY Oneonta following the Fall 2016 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by College President Nancy Kleniewski and held in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. They also are eligible to participate in the college's commencement on May 13.

A total of 200 SUNY Oneonta students earned Provost's List honors for the fall 2016 semester. To qualify for the Provost's List, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

A book featuring autobiographical vignettes by 29 Latino SUNY Oneonta students and recent alumni won two awards at the Latino Literacy Now's International Latino Book Awards. Titled "Mi vida en los Estados Unidos, jovenes hispanohablantes cuentan sus experiencias" ("My Life in the United States, Young Hispanic Heritage Language Speakers Write About Their Experiences"), the book is a collection of common experiences growing up with two languages and two cultures, and similar life struggles.

The State University of New York at New Paltz has announced its Dean's List for the fall 2015 semester. Dean's List designation is reserved for students who excel academically and earn at least a 3.3 grade-point average in a semester with a full-time course load.
